Fire Nation Turkey Leg | Avatar: The Last Airbender Recipes Super Hungry? Jump to the Recipe

Zuko would have had a much easier time restoring his honor if he’s only tried serving the Fire Lord this meal for dinner. I’d like to think a simple gesture such as a homemade meal would have melted the Fire Lord’s heart, made him rethink using Sozin’s comet to bring death and destruction, and accept his son back into his home with love.

While I’m not sure if there was such a thing as ‘turkey-duck’ in the Avatar universe, I know for sure ‘turkey-ducks,’ like platypus-bears or flying bison, don’t actually exist in real life - so these poultry legs belong to just regular old turkeys.

I took some creative liberty when it came to choosing the ingredients for this recipe as well, since Avatar is heavily influenced by Asian and Thai cultures. I wanted to make something super spicy, and roast it, since I feel like fire benders, out of all of the different benders, would be most prone to eating spicy chow.

The best part about this recipe is that it requires very little standing time, as you really only need to whisk together the marinade ingredients and let the turkey legs rest for a few hours in the sauce prior to cooking.

I arranged my turkey legs in a roasting pan with some frozen veggies and then popped it into the oven firebend-ed to 375°F for 20 minutes covered.

After those 20 minutes are up, brush the legs with butter or ghee and baste the legs with the remaining sauce and continue cooking, uncovered, for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the turkey legs are cooked through.

I served mine alongside some momos - not the flying lemur, Momo - but authentic Nepali momos, which I’m sure members of the Fire Nation would have enjoyed.
