Gommu's Hobo Soup | Legend of Korra Recipes Super Hungry? Jump to the Recipe

As Republic City comes under the reign of Amon and the Equalists, Korra and the rest of Team Avatar take shelter with Gommu in their underground base. Here benders and non-benders exist in peace. Gommu of course is ecstatic to have company and whips together some street gruel for his guests.

Gommu's soup is "culled from the finest dumpsters the city has to offer" which might not phase the likes of Mako and Bolin, who grew up on the streets, or Korra who eats fish right out of the lake, but for those privileged folks like Asami, finding out your dinner came from the trash might be a little more than...disgusting.

While my recipe for Gommu's hobo stew might be...fresher...than his, I'd like to think the flavors hold true.

Even if I didn't pull my ingredients out of the trash, I was still able to clean out a lot of half-used and going-bad-soon ingredients from my own fridge, so it felt a little bit like real street gruel.

Start by browning the chicken in a large pot until it's seared on all sides. Toss in the chopped potatoes, carrots, and onions with a touch of butter. Cook until the potatoes are beginning to soften.

Add the chopped peppers, tomatoes, and garlic to the pot then pour in the broth and bring to a simmer.

When the stew reaches a rolling boil, add the egg noodles and bay leaves. Simmer until the noodles are al dente and remove the bay leaves (because those aren't edible!).

Serve your soup to some hungry benders (and non-benders for the cause) and send them on their way to fight off the Equalists! Even if you aren't a bender yourself, you definitely don't want someone like Amon in charge of...well, anything.

Oh, and despite the want to make this soup as close to the inspiration as possible, please do not actually select your food from a dumpster.

Charcuterie Chalet (aka the Cheese Board House)

One of the weirdest food trends to arise from 2020 - the charcuterie chalet. It's like a gingerbread house, but made from crackers, meat and cheese.
