What’s Up, Hungry People

Miso paste is a game-changer. Whenever I feel like my dish needs a little oomph, I often reach for this fermented favorite. Swapping out soy sauce for miso in some recipes really brings a new dimension to the table. And tonight, I’m bringing you a recipe that does just that: pork chops with an orange miso glaze. This glaze, with its hints of sweetness and a soft undertone of umami, will make you think about pork in a whole new way.

Let’s Cook

The versatility of this marinade always amazes me. Not just for pork, I’ve spread this magic on chicken and steak too, and trust me, it never disappoints. So how do we bring this dish together? Start by whisking up the marinade ingredients. Grab a shallow pan, layer it with orange slices and some onions to create a fragrant base.

Now, nestle those ribs into the pan, and drench them in that beautiful marinade. I usually let mine soak in the flavors for about an hour. But hey, if you’re planning ahead, an overnight marinade session gives the meat even more time to mingle with all those delicious notes.

Before it goes into the oven, let’s make it look as good as it’s going to taste! Add the leftover orange slices and onions on top, and then sprinkle a generous handful of crushed cashews for some added crunch. Let’s Cook! Slide that pan into the oven and bake for a good 20-30 minutes. Remember, you’re aiming for an internal temperature of about 160°F.

When you pull it out, let patience be your guide. Give your pork a few moments of rest before digging in. The heat inside will continue doing its thing, ensuring your meat is juicy and perfect.

Orange-Miso Pork Chops: Tips & Tricks

  • Miso: It’s a fermented paste, so a little goes a long way. Adjust to taste if necessary.
  • Marinating Time: The longer you marinate, the more flavorful your pork will be. Overnight is ideal.
  • Pork’s Internal Temperature: Aim for 145°F to 160°F, ensuring tenderness without overcooking.
  • Resting the Pork: After baking, let it rest for a few minutes. This ensures juicier meat.
  • Orange Slices: Using fresh oranges is key. Avoid canned or overly ripe ones for best results.
  • Ginger & Garlic: Freshly minced offers the best flavor. Pre-packaged can sometimes lack in freshness.
  • Pairing: This dish goes well with light salads or simple steamed veggies to balance richness.
