What’s Up, Hungry People
I’ve been on a fast food kick the last couple of weeks—but not like the ‘eat fast and casual’ type of fast food. No, I’ve been making all my food fast, at home.
Wendy’s is hands down my favorite fast food joint. Maybe it’s because I’m from Ohio (and apparently, we have more Wendy’s per capita than any other state)…Don’t look that up. It’s totally a real fact I didn’t make up for this post!
But Wendy’s does arguably have the BEST chicken sandwiches. Especially SPICY chicken sandwiches. Did you know that you can get ANY classic Wendy’s burger as a chicken sandwich? Yep, the Baconator chicken sandwich is a thing if you ask for it! So when I found out you can ask for a jalapeño bacon SPICY CHICKEN sandwich, I was instantly smitten.
If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to fast food, this recipe probably isn’t the one for you. I can’t attest that it has any fewer calories than the real deal, but when I’m in a pinch and have chicken patties laying around—and I’m feeling too lazy to drive to Wendy’s—these chicken sandwiches are just as good as the real deal.

Here’s What You Need
- Frozen breaded spicy chicken breasts – The base of our sandwich, bringing the heat and crispiness.
- Burger buns – Holds everything together and adds a soft texture.
- Mayonnaise – Creamy base for the spicy sauce.
- Frank’s RedHot sauce – Adds a tangy heat to the mayo.
- French fried onions – Crunchy topping that adds a savory kick.
- Bacon – Crispy, salty goodness that complements the spice.
- Pickled jalapeños – Brings an extra layer of heat and tanginess.
- American cheese – Melty and gooey, perfect for a chicken sandwich.

Let’s Cook
First things first, cook those frozen breaded spicy chicken breasts according to the instructions on the packaging. Every brand is different, but typically, you’ll be baking them in the oven at around 400°F until they’re crispy and cooked through.
While the chicken is cooking, fry up the bacon in a pan until it’s nice and crispy. Once it’s done, place it on a paper towel to soak up that extra grease. You don’t want a soggy sandwich!
Making the Spicy Sauce
Now, let’s mix up that spicy sauce. In a small bowl, combine ½ cup of mayonnaise with ¼ cup of Frank’s RedHot sauce (or sriracha if you prefer). Stir it until it’s well blended. This sauce is going to add a creamy, spicy kick to your sandwich.
Toasting the Buns (Optional but Recommended)
If you like your buns toasted (and who doesn’t?), now’s the time to do it. Lightly toast them in the oven or on a skillet until they are golden brown. This step is optional, but it adds a nice crunch to your sandwich.
Assembling the Sandwiches
Alright, let’s put this bad boy together. Start with the bottom bun, and place a cooked chicken breast patty on top. Next, lay a slice of American cheese over the hot chicken—let it get all melty and delicious. Add a couple of strips of crispy bacon on top of the cheese.
Now, sprinkle some French fried onions over the bacon. These add a nice crunch and a little extra flavor. Then, add a handful of pickled jalapeños for that tangy heat.
Finally, drizzle your homemade spicy sauce generously over everything. Top it all off with the other half of the bun, and there you have it—your very own copycat bacon jalapeño spicy chicken sandwich!

Extra Tips for the Perfect Sandwich
- Crispy Bacon: Fry your bacon on medium heat to ensure it gets crispy without burning. Drain on paper towels to keep it crunchy.
- Evenly Cooked Chicken: Make sure your chicken breasts are cooked evenly by flipping them halfway through baking. Use a meat thermometer to ensure an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Spice Level: Adjust the amount of hot sauce in your mayo to control the spice level. Add more if you like it extra hot!
- Storing Leftovers: If you have leftover spicy sauce, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. It’s great on burgers, fries, and more!

So, there you have it, Hungry People! Making a copycat Wendy’s bacon jalapeño spicy chicken sandwich at home is easier than you think and just as delicious. This recipe is perfect for those days when you’re craving something spicy and satisfying but don’t want to leave the house. Plus, you can customize it to your liking with more (or less) jalapeños and hot sauce. I hope you enjoy making and eating these as much as I do. Grab some napkins because it’s going to get messy!
