What’s Up, Hungry People
Pack up your gear for a fishing trip with Dad—it’s time to make the famous ooey, gooey pizza from The Goofy Movie.
The 90s were a wild time—if you were around during the latter half, you might remember the pizza wars that were happening, resulting in some of the gooiest and cheesiest pizzas in the history of humankind (seriously, I remember gagging on the rope of cheese that would form in your mouth when eating some of these 90s cheese pizzas, I was just a civilian on the ground while the pizza wars were happening!) This pizza frenzy was only fueled when The Goofy Movie hit theaters, introducing us all to the most enviable pizza creation ever seen on screen.
Ever since watching this movie at the ripe age of 5, I’ve been craving a pizza that cheesy. No delivery place has come close to the mountain of mozzarella that must’ve been needed to make the mysterious pizza delivered to the Neptune Inn.
And thus, a lifelong need to recreate this pizza was born. Thanks to TikTok and several hundred requests later, it was finally time to make this fabled ‘za for myself.
The Pizza with the Cheeza
Here’s what you need to make your own Goofy movie-inspired pizza at home!
Here’s What You Need
- Pizza dough: Fresh or homemade is best (not frozen or prepacked/dry) for the ideal chewy crust.
- Butter: Clarified or salted will give the biggest boost of flavor when brushed on the dough.
- Garlic & onion powder: For savory notes and that garlicky crust goodness.
- Italian seasoning: Store-bought for consistent flavor, but a DIY mix works too.
- Fresh mozzarella: The secret to the perfect cheese-pull you’ve been dreaming of.
- Sliced mozzarella: Like the kind you’d put on a sandwich; lower moisture than fresh mozzarella.
- Shredded mozzarella: To give your pizza that classic, traditional look.
- Pizza sauce: Pick your favorite red marinara sauce for topping your dough.
- Big & mini pepperoni: Dual sizes give it the look of the pizza from the movie.
Let’s Cook
First things first, if you’ve got a pizza stone, now’s the time to bust it out. Preheat your oven to 450°F and pop that pizza stone in there. Let it heat up for about an hour—trust me, the hotter the stone, the crispier the crust. If you don’t have a pizza stone, no worries; just use an air-bake pizza sheet or a regular pizza pan.
Prepare the Dough
While your stone is heating up, let the pizza dough come to room temperature. This helps it stretch without springing back too much. Toss or roll out the dough until it’s about ¾ inch thick. We’re going for that thick, pillowy crust like Max and PJ would fight over at the Neptune Inn.
Brush the Butter and Seasonings
Next, melt your butter and mix in the garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush this all over the dough, making sure to hit the edges because nobody wants a dry crust!
Add the Sauce, Cheese and Pep
Now for the sauce. Spoon about ¼ cup of your favorite pizza sauce onto the dough and spread it out, leaving about an inch around the edges for the crust. Time to pile on the cheese! Start with the sliced mozzarella, then the fresh mozzarella slices, and finish with the shredded mozzarella. We’re talking cheese on cheese on cheese.
Add your pepperonis—the big ones first, then the mini pepperonis for that extra cartoonish touch.
Bake the Pizza
Slide the pizza onto your preheated stone (or your pizza pan) and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and browned in spots. Keep an eye on it; you want that perfect balance of a crispy crust and gooey cheese.
Cool, Slice, and Serve
Once it’s done, take it out and let it cool for 5-10 minutes. This helps the cheese set a bit so it doesn’t slide off when you cut it. Slice it up and enjoy—just like Bobby Zimmeruski would!
Baking Tips
- Preheat that stone: A super hot pizza stone mimics the high heat of commercial pizza ovens, giving you a crisp bottom crust.
- Watch your cheese: Keep an eye on the cheese as it bakes. If it starts browning too fast, loosely tent some foil over the pizza to prevent burning.
- Room temperature dough: Cold dough is tough to stretch and can shrink back. Let it warm up a bit before rolling or tossing.
Common Questions About The Pizza from a Goofy Movie
- Can I use pre-shredded mozzarella? You can, but fresh mozzarella gives a better melt and stretch. Pre-shredded cheese often has anti-caking agents that can affect the melt.
- What if I don’t have a pizza stone? No worries! Use a regular pizza pan or an air-bake pizza sheet. You won’t get the exact same crispy bottom, but it’ll still be delicious.
- Can I make this gluten-free? Absolutely! Just swap the pizza dough for a gluten-free version. Everything else stays the same.
- How do I prevent the pizza from sticking to the stone? Use a pizza peel dusted with flour or cornmeal to slide the pizza onto the stone. This helps the dough slide right off without sticking.

- Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the pizza crust is golden and browned and the cheese is bubbled up and melted.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes to fully set the cheese. Slice and serve right away – pizza box optional. Enjoy!
