Lupin's Chocolate Frogs | Harry Potter Inspired Recipes

My Muggle-version of chocolate frogs may not be charmed, but they'll certainly wake up your tastebuds.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 3 packages sour apple pop rocks optional

Instructions
 

  • Create a small double boiler by placing a heat proof bowl over a pan with about an inch of water in it. Bring the water to a boil and place the bowl suspended over the top. Pour in 2 cups of chocolate chips and let melt. Stir until glossy smooth, about 5-10 minutes. The chocolate should be about 110 F.
  • Remove the chocolate from the heat and stir in the remaining chocolate chips. Continuously stir until the chocolate is melted and 90 F.
  • When the chocolate reaches 90 F, it has been tempered. Pour the chocolate into the frog molds. Sprinkle pop rocks over the bottoms of the chocolate frogs as desired. Or mix the pop rocks into the remaining chocolate and pour into the molds.
  • Place into the fridge for 5-10 minutes or until the chocolate is set. Do not keep the chocolate in the fridge too long or it will 'sweat.'
  • If tempered correctly, the chocolate frogs should have a glossy sheen and nice snap. Sprinkle any remaining pop rocks over the frogs, as desired. Enjoy with Remus Lupin during Defense Against the Dark Arts class!
