Instructions
I recommend preparing the board items in the following order:
Coraline's "Welcome Home Cake" & Cupcakes
Prepare the cake mix according to the instructions on the box. Preheat the oven per the instructions for cupcakes and prep a cupcake tin with liners. Grease a mini springform pan for the cake.
Pour enough batter into the mini springform pan to fill it 2/3 full. Use the remaining batter in the prepared cupcake tin. Bake with the cupcakes on the middle rack and the cake on the rack above. Cool completely. Start preping other elements of the board while the cakes cool.
Use a piping bag with the end snipped off about 1/2 inch to pipe white frosting swirls on top of the cupcakes. Place a single glacé cherry on top. Chill until ready to serve.
Spread the pink icing on top of the mini cake. Use the remaining white icing to make dollops of icing to form flowers on top of the pink icing around the top edge of the cake (where the candles will be placed). Write "Welcome Home!" in the center of the cake with the red writing icing. Add candles in the middle of each white flower. Chill until ready to serve.
For Wybie's Banana Slugs
OPTIONAL: Ahead of time, create silicone molds of the toy slugs with the two-part silicone putty and set fully. Otherwise, find a similarly shaped bug mold to use for the slug shape. Place the molds on baking sheets to make moving them in and out of the fridge easier.
Mix the lemon Jell-O mix with the dry gelatin. Whisk in water according to the instructions on the Jell-O box. Set aside - you will have a few minutes to work with the Jell-O in a liquid state. If it sets too quickly, microwave the Jell-O for a few seconds until it is liquid again.
Prepare the banana pudding according to the instructions on the box. Measure out about 1/4 cup of pudding and reserve the remaining pudding for another recipe.
Measure out about 1/2 cup of the liquid Jell-O. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Jell-O and pudding until a thin, opaque liquid forms. Make enough of this liquid to fill the desired number of molds.
Pour the lemon Jell-O banana pudding mix into the molds and transfer to the fridge to set.
Prepare the chocolate pudding. Set aside all but a few tablespoons (the larger amount will be used for the Magic Mud).
When the slug shapes have set, carefully remove them from the molds. Use a straw or spoon to dab dots onto the backs of the slugs to make them look like little bananas. Place onto a plate and chill until ready to serve.
For Cocoa Beetles from Zanzibar
Prep one baking sheet with a cooling rack for dripping the chocolate. Place the silicone mold onto a second baking sheet.
Temper the chocolate by microwaving half of it in 30-second intervals until the chocolate is fully melted and stirs together easily. Then pour in the remaining chocolate and stir constantly until the chocolate is glossy. If you have a candy thermometer, it should read 110°F when ready to pour into the molds.
Carefully pour the melted chocolate into the molds so that they are filled. Then quickly place the baking sheet with the cooling rack on top and flip it so that the chocolate-filled molds are upside down on the cooling rack. Drip out all but enough of the chocolate to create a thin shell, then flip the molds back upright. Reserve the melted drippings—they will stay melty while the molds set. Chill to set the chocolate for 5 minutes.
When the chocolate has set, scoop enough dulce de leche into the cavity of each mold so they are nearly full. Pour the melty chocolate drippings over the top and scrape off the excess. Place the molds back into the fridge to set the top.
After the chocolate has fully set, mix together the luster dust with a drop of vodka or similar alcohol to create a paste. NOTE: VERY LITTLE ALCOHOL IS NEEDED. A DROP WILL LIKELY DO.
Paint the wings and heads of the beetles with a pastry brush. Chill until ready to serve.
For Magic Mud
Use the remaining pudding from the banana slugs and scoop it into individual cups so they are filled about halfway.
Push a few gummy worms into each cup and sprinkle crushed Oreos on top. Chill until ready to serve.
For Other Mother's Dinner Feast
Use an air fryer set to 350°F to air fry the Cornish hen for 18 minutes, breast side down. Then flip the bird and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the breast reads 160°F and the skin is golden and crispy.
While the bird is air frying, steam the peas and corn according to the instructions on the packaging.
As the peas and corn are cooking, make the mashed potatoes and gravy according to the instructions on the packaging.
Warm the rolls and prepare a side of butter for the rolls. Keep everything (except the butter) warm until ready to serve on the board.
For Other Father's Breakfast for Dinner
Preheat a waffle iron. Prepare the pancake/waffle batter according to the instructions on the box. Cook the waffles in batches—set aside any waffles not intended to be served for another recipe. Keep warm until ready to serve. Top cooked waffles with the strawberry sauce.
For Other Mother's Omelette Breakfast
In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, then whisk in the chopped chives. Slice the bacon in half and fry it in a large skillet. Prep a second smaller skillet over medium heat.
Melt the butter in the smaller skillet and sauté the mushrooms until they are golden, about 3-5 minutes. Pour the eggs over the mushrooms. Pull the sides into the middle and let the uncooked egg pour over into the skillet. Repeat until no more egg easily moves to the sides but is still wet on top. In one fluid motion, flip the omelette.
Season with salt and pepper. Add cheese on half of the omelette (the side that will hit the plate first when you slide it off the skillet). Cook for about 90 seconds more or until the cheese is melted. Plate the omelette and use the pan to flip the omelette in half.
Dry the fried bacon on paper towels. Keep bacon and omelette warm until ready to serve.
Assembly
Arrange plates on a circular board to look like buttonholes on a giant button. Fill the plates with the cooked items and arrange the side items like crackers and cheese, beets and strawberries, jellies and jams, taffy and cocoa beetles around the plates and cooked items. Serve while watching Coraline and avoiding the Beldam. Enjoy!
