Fortnite has officially taken over my kitchen. If you haven't heard of Fortnite, then you probably aren't a parent or girlfriend to a gamer - or you've been living under a rock.

Surely by now, the main stream public has seen some of the dances that have been popping up just about everywhere:

Honestly, I know nothing about Fortnite, but my boyfriend plays nearly every day, so it's hard to not see or hear some Fortnite related news from time to time.

Namely, that time that apparently the Fortnite universe started leaking into our real world universe and objects from the game teleported onto Earth IRL - and dropped not only colorful llamas across Europe, but also this... Durr Burger...that showed up in the California desert

MatPat from the Game Theorists does a pretty good job at explaining the theory behind what is going on in the game that is making certain items disappear and then reappear in the real world.

(Honestly, it's just really clever marketing, but call it what you will...)

The giant Durr Burger in the desert got my foodie gears turning. If you're looking for a way to connect with a gamer over a game you essentially know nothing about, then the Durr Burger IRL will bridge that delicious gap - and maybe pull them away from the TV or computer for long enough to have a decent conversation before they return to the Battle Royale.

My version of the Durr Burger has spam for the tongue - because like everyone else who doesn't play, you are probably being SPAMMED by Fortnite (GET IT??!?!). With mozzarella pearls for eyes and olives for the pupils and garnish, this delicious real-life Durr Burger recipe is the perfect dinner for any die hard Fortnite fanatic.

Durr Burger | Fortnite Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20-30 minutes

Makes 2 Durr Burgers

Ingredients:

The Starving Chef Blog
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 can Spam, sliced
  • tomato slices
  • cheddar cheese slices
  • mozzarella pearls
  • black olives, sliced
  • green olives with filling
  • toothpicks

Here's How:

The Starving Chef Blog
  1. In a large bowl, stir the salt and pepper into the ground beef. Form the beef into two half pound patties, about an inch thick. (OPTIONAL: You can make the patties any size you desire, but I kept mine as close to the 'real' version as I could.)
  2. Remove the cooked patties from the skillet but leave the grease behind. Let the burgers rest for about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Slice the Spam into quarter inch thick slices. Fry the Spam in the remaining grease in the skillet until the Spam is heated through and just beginning to brown on the edges.
  4. Use a cast iron or flat top iron skillet over medium high heat to sear the burgers until a golden crust as formed on each side. Cook the burgers until they reach your desired doneness, about 5-8 minutes per side. (Rare: 120-125 F | Medium Rare : 130-135 F | Medium Well : 145-150 F | Well-done: 155-160 F)
  5. For an authentic Durr Burger, top the patties with two slices of cheddar cheese, and a thick slice of tomato. Place the Spam so that it hangs off the side of the burger like a tongue.
  6. Slice the black olives thin and then attach the slices to small mozzarella pearls so that they look like eyes. Skewer the mozzrella with the toothpick and affix to the top sides of the burger bun. Serve with french fries and a variety of your gamer's favorite toppings. Enjoy!
